The sign that showed me the way

I have lived in the Northside of Wilmington for about a year and a half now, but hadn't noticed this place until about a month ago. Its easy enough to find since its right off of North Market Street as you head out of the city. However, it wasn't until I drove up there at nighttime that I noticed their nicely lit up sign sitting off the road that I had a clue that this place existed. Honestly, when I first drove by it, I couldn't believe that I had never seen it before, so I actually turned around to check it out. Sure enough, it was no mirage! It was an actual real live 24 hour dinner, just north of my neighborhood and right around the corner from my Wawa too! So I put it second on the list for the Fellas.

So, what did you get and what did you think?

Justin - western omelette, home fries, wheat toast  

Omelette was done well, home fries were decent, wheat toast was a little heavy on the butter and not hot when I got it - other than that - coffee was hot and good.

George - Three Eggs with Bacon, Sausage, & Ham + a side of Bacon and Orange Juice. 

The food was fast and it was good. I enjoy this spot because it is close to home and almost never crowded for breakfast especially not at 7 AM.

Jason J - I got 2 pancakes with syrup and a cuppa coffee.

Honestly the pancakes weren't all that good.  I was in a rare mood for some pancakes, so they were serviceable, but not particularly noteworthy. The coffee was alright, but I could have used a few more refills. The highlight of the meal was eating George's leftovers. He accidentally ordered way more than he could eat and I gladly finished it off for him. The sausage there was excellent! It was a nice big juicy link and for a moment, I considered licking the plate to get all the grease off when I was done.

Any Comments or Suggestions

Jason J: This was one of the largest gathering of the Fellas so far, so I'm glad we were at a place that could accommodate all of us. Even though the place was small, there was a lot of seating packed in there, so we didn't have any trouble.  Our waitress could have been a little more attentive and she seemed a little overwhelmed by a larger crowd so early in the morning.  I was slightly annoyed, but I can't fault the diner for the waitress's behavior per se.  I'll definitely come back sometime in the future and check it out again.


Arul:  At 6:30 in the morning, it is a great peaceful environment to get your day started. Great location, yummy food, and the hospitality was great. I look forward to meeting back at the Marsh Road Diner

The Bean Bag Cafe - Week 1

I chose this as the first place for the Breakfast Crew because I had heard about this place a long time ago but hadn't been able to find it. I knew the address was 913 Market St and I had driven by there hundreds of times, but had never been able to see it. I was a little worried about committing the group to a place I hadn't found yet, but I called up and confirmed that they were in fact open. Once I got on Market Street, I discovered why I had never seen it. They have the tiniest little sign that you just can't see while you're driving.

However, I discovered if you go around back on Shippley Street, I discovered that they have a real live entrance. Its unfortunate that their address is on Market because its prevented me from finding the place a lot earlier.

When I called up and asked what time they opened, the woman told me 'typically between 6:30 and 7:00am. True to her word, the woman who was working there opened up and let us in at 6:45am.

So, what did you get and what did you think?

Jason J - Two Eggs over medium with Scrapple and homefries.

Scrapple is always one of my go-to dishes and this was pretty good here. They cooked it up thin, with just the right amount of chewy-ness inside.  The home fries here were REALLY good.  I don't know if they're home-made or not, but they were amongst the best I've had.

Arul - Egg&Bacon on Onion Bagel

I had a yummy simple egg and bacon on an onion bagel...no cheese. It was cool to be in control of what flavor to put in my coffee and not be charged extra. So I had a raspberry and chocolate coffee :).

Arul:  You're going to call yourself bean bag cafe, you shouldn't have just creamers.
Jason:  If you're going to call yourself the Beanbag Cafe, you should also have bean bag chairs :)

This is a coffee shop no-no!

Seriously though, Arul has a point, and this will be an area of contention for the Fellas throughout the next year.  Creamers were made for those tiny little cofffee cups that your grandmother used.  They're fine if you are going to put one or two of them in an 8oz cup.  However, if you get a 20oz coffee and you like a lot of cream in your coffee (which I do) then you're going to be opening up at least 8 of these things with every coffee refill.  I practically cleaned out this little bowl with my first cup of coffee.

The coffee here was decent, however being a coffee snob, I would have liked to have known what they were serving up that morning.  They had 3 carafes full of coffee, so refills were no extra charge. They also had free flavor shots available next to the coffee, which was a nice extra bonus.

All in all, we had a nice morning in the heart of downtown Wilmington.  The food was good, the coffee was decent, and the company was great!
